Beach Tennis With More Wins Than Losses Again In Second Day Of Beach Tennis Winter Invite

Pamela Badillo, Paulina Franco Martinessi and Daisy Carpenter all had multiple wins for LBSU Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State won five singles matches and split their doubles competition on the day as the depth the young team was showcased on Saturday.
The Beach and Portland split their doubles matches on Saturday to begin the day. Paulina Franco Martiness in Daisy Carpenter won a 7-6 tiebreaker thriller, while Thea Jagare and Pamela Badillo defeated Kylie Canubida and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez of the Pilots 6-1. Portland grabbed two wins of their own though as Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez outlasted Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair 6-4 and Isabella Marquart and Aleks Dimitrijevic won 6-2 over Diana De Simone and Daria Malescu.
That last pair would strike back in singles though, each winning their matches. De Simone was a straight sets winner over Angela Ho, 6-3, 6-2. Malescu was impressive in closing when it mattered, winning a 7-0 tiebreak in the first set and after dropping the second set the freshman finished off the win with a 6-0 third set win over Emma Martalla Sanz.
Other singles winners included Daisy Carpenter who cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Annette Robertson, Paulina Franco Martinessi who won another wild match 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 against Sofia Dermenjyan, and Pamela Badillo who after a 6-4 first set win was up 2-0 before a retirement from her Matador opponent.
Yuliia Zhytelna and freshman Cecilia Costa had a great battle, but CSUN's senior leader just edged Costa 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 in a fantastic match featuring two tiebreakers that went down to the wire. Nicole West defeated Thea Jagare and Johanna Hiesmair suffered her first singles loss against CSUN's Sydney Wilson.
The Beach Tennis Winter Invite finishes on Sunday, January 19 with a final round of both doubles and singles. Competition will move up to a scheduled 10 a.m. start, with Long Beach State facing Miami of Ohio in doubles and Portland in singles.
