The Huskies score twice in a five-minute span

LONG BEACH, Calif.—The University of Washington defeated Long Beach State 2-0 in women's soccer action Thursday night at George Allen Field.

After turning away two early Washington shot attempts in the opening two minutes, LBSU threatened in the fifth when Liz Worden's blast went off the crossbar.

After a Natalie Arnold attempt that just went wide in the 10th minute, Julia Moore's shot in the 21st appeared to be going in, but a Huskies' defender was able to kick the ball away at the last moment. Washington responded with an apparent goal two minutes later, but UW was whistled for offsides. Aurora Schuck made her second save of the match in the 40th minute as she stopped Samiah Shell in front of her goal.

The Huskies took advantage of a set piece with seven seconds remaining in the opening frame. Kalea Eichenberger headed in Kolo Suliafu's free kick from just past midfield past Schuck in the top right of the LBSU goal for the lead.

The Beach started aggressively on the second half kickoff as Makayla Demelo's blast toward the bottom center of the UW goal was saved by Hamant. Radisson Banks put the Huskies ahead 2-0 in the 50th minute. Alex Buck dribbled down the sideline, finding Banks darting toward the goal. She converted from 6 yards out.

Worden threatened in the 57th minute; however, Hamant recorded the save on the play. In the 65th minute, Long Beach State had two attempts off a corner kick. Bella Ternero's header went off a Washington defender. Penny Smith found the ball, and her shot went high. In the 84th minute, Hamant saved Moore's attempt in the bottom center of the Washington goal.

Washington (3-1-2) outshot LBSU 9-7, 6-4 on goal. Schuck made four saves while Hamant had three. Moore and Worden both posted two shots to pace the Beach. Tatum Thomason was the only Huskies player to record more than one attempt, as she had two.
