Seeber tied for third overall after Sunday’s first round.
MADISON, Wisc. – Senior Clay Seeber ended the first round of action at the Badger Invitational tied for third place overall with a three-under par 69, highlighting the day for Long Beach State who sit fourth overall after the first of three rounds.
"We got off to a rough start today," said Rob Murray. "The wind was blowing and the first six holes aren't easy. Clay really led the way on the front nine and the rest of the squad showed fight to keep us in it on the back nine. I think we're in a good position with two rounds still to play."
Seeber got off to a hot start, with six birdies on the front nine to go into the turn at 6-under par, and while the senior wasn't able to keep that pace, a solid 69 put him among the leaders after the first round.
Charlie Forster had three birdies without a bogey on the back nine, helping the senior also finish under par Sunday, tied for 11th overall. The pair led the way for the Beach who closed out the day two-under par as a team.
The hosts, Wisconsin lead the tournament just in front of Illinois State and Northern Illinois, but the Beach is well within striking distance of the Badgers as the fourth team under par in the opening day of the 16-team field.
Jaden Huggins finished off Sunday's first round with a 73, helped by an eagle on two, while Jack Cantlay was one stroke behind that with a 74, as the pair of juniors both were also in the top half of the 90 golfers competing. Alejandro de Castro Piera had the day's drop score with a 76.
Sophomore transfer Tiger Tahvildari made his Division I debut this weekend, playing as an individual and had a very solid round, recording three straight birdies in his final five holes down the stretch to finish with a one-over par 73 tied for 29th overall along with Huggins.
