Natalie Glenn records her third double-double of the year in Long Beach’s loss

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team rallied, but came up short on Saturday morning at the Nebraska Classic against No. 14 Arizona State. The Beach dropped the straight-set contest by scores of 12-25, 22-25, 22-25 at the Devaney Sports Center.

The Beach (4-3) got off to a slow start against the Sun Devils (8-1), but came back strong in the second and third sets. Arizona State hit .364 on the day and held the edge in blocking defense (9-3).

Natalie Glenn, a senior outside hitter, recorded her third double-double of the season and second of the Nebraska Classic on Saturday as she knocked down 14 kills and 10 digs. She also contributed two aces and an assist.

Freshman Madi Maxwell was solid as she posted nine kills to go along with five digs and one block. Meanwhile, setter Zayna Meyer registered 31 assists, seven digs, one kill, and one block.

Libero Jenna Giambi anchored the backrow picking up eight digs, while Kameron Bacon collected two blocks at the net.

Arizona State got off to a strong start as the Sun Devils took an early 5-1 lead over Long Beach State and led the rest of the set. The Beach struggled as they fell behind the Sun Devils by double digits, before falling by a score of 25-12.

Despite the lopsided score in the opening set, Long Beach State was unfazed. The Beach came out in the second set and battled the Sun Devils through five ties and a pair of lead changes. LBSU used a 4-0 run to cut ASU's lead down to two (24-22), but the Beach's rally was cut short when Arizona State put the game away, 25-22.

The Beach turned in their best performance in the third set as they opened the match with a 3-1 lead. After getting back-to-back aces from Savana Chacon, Long Beach State led ASU, 11-8. However, the Sun Devils came back and evened the score at 16-all. From there, the two teams traded points back-and-forth until they were deadlocked at 22-22 thanks to a kill from Bacon. That was as close as the Beach would get as the Sun Devil managed to close the set and match with three-straight points to win, 25-22.

Geli Cyr led the Sun Devils with 12 kills on a .500 attack percentage. Setter Argentina Ung led ASU to a .364 clip as she dished out 26 assists to go along with eight digs, six kills, four blocks, and an ace.

Defensively, Arizona State was led by libero Mary Shroll's 14 digs, as well as Savannah Kjolhede's five blocks.

Long Beach State will return to the Walter Pyramid to host its own tournament Thursday, Sept. 19 p Saturday, Sept. 21. Team participating the LBSU Tournament are Washington, Pepperdine, and Washington State.
