LBSU Defeats UVU 2-1 For Ingrassia's 200th Career Victory

The Beach score twice in the first half

OREM, Utah—Long Beach State scored twice in the first half as the Beach defeated Utah Valley 2-1 Saturday afternoon in women's soccer action at Clyde Field. The win was the 200th for Long Beach State head coach Mauricio Ingrassia.
 
In his 21st year, Ingrassia is 200-136-53 as the head coach at LBSU. Ingrassia is the 82nd active NCAA Division I women's soccer coach to win at least 200 in his career and the 175th Division I women's soccer coach to win at least 200 in their career.
 
Utah Valley threatened with back-to-back shots in the fifth and sixth minutes, each time Aurora Schuck made the save for the Beach. Schuck made four saves on eight shots on goal over the first 17 minutes of action.
 
Liz Worden made Long Beach State's first shot attempt of the match count as her blast from 20 yards out in the 20th minute put the Beach on top 1-0. Faith Webber tied the score in the 34th minute when she converted a Quincy Bonds' pass from just outside the keeper's box.
 
Long Beach State returned to the lead with 10 seconds to go in the first half. LBSU was awarded a free kick, which Marissa Garcia took. Garcia's pass found Bella Ternero, who headed the ball past UVU goalie CJ Graham. 

An aggressive LBSU start to the second half was capped off by a Worden attempt that went wide one minute into the frame. Schuck made a save from point-blank range on Utah Valley's first offensive threat in the 49th minute of the second half. Long Beach State continued to press as shots by Summer Laskey (50th) and Worden (52nd) just missed. Graham saved a Julia Moore attempt in the 56th for the Wolverines.

 
Play settled for the next 15+ minutes until Graham saved a Kassandra Ceja header. Kailey Supa capped off an offensive threat in the 80th minute with a shot blocked by the UVU defense. Worden followed with an attempt that went right. With three minutes remaining, Long Beach State successfully defended a Utah Valley corner kick to stay in the lead.
 
Utah Valley outshot Long Beach State 15-2 in the first half, 7-2 on goal. Schuck charted six saves. Long Beach State outshot UVU (2-2-1) 8-4 (4-1 on goal) in the second half. Schuck made one save in the second half to raise her match total to seven.
