LONG BEACH, Calif. – Former Dirtbag Jarren Duran was added to the American League roster for the upcoming 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game, becoming the ninth former player to participate in the MLB All-Star game from Long Beach State's 57 professional alumni.
Duran currently leads the Major League Baseball in triples this season with 10, and is the only player in American League history to record 100 hits, 10 triples, 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases prior to the All-Star Break. Drafted by Boston in 2018, Duran broke into the bigs in 2021 and has featured in each of the last four seasons with the Red Sox.
A star in his own right at Long Beach State, Duran helped lead Long Beach State to a 2017 Super Regional appearance, and was a two-time All-Big West selection during his time with the Dirtbags.
Duran joins a list of major stars who have competed in the All-Star Game following their time at Long Beach State. Most recently, Jeff McNeil was a 2022 All-Star Game participant, and the Dirtbags have also seen Jason Giambi, Troy Tulowitzki, Evan Logoria, Jered Wever, Marco Estrada, Steve Trachsel and Jason Vargas take part in the midsummer classic.
The game will be held on July 16 from Globe Life Field in Texas.
