
Clay Seeber, Long Beach State In Second Place At The End Of The First Round Of The Big West Championship

As a team, the Beach are 2-under par, while Clay Seeber is 5-under heading into the second round of action at The Big West Championship
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Top-seeded Long Beach State teed off at The Big West Championship on Sunday and had all five players in its lineup finish in the Top 20 at the end of the first round. The Beach head into the second round in second place, with senior Clay Seeber leading the way with a 5-under par performance in the opening round.
The Beach are shooting 2-under par as a team and just five strokes behind leader Cal State Fullerton. In third place, Cal Poly is shooting 1-under par and just one stroke behind LBSU.
"The guys came out a little tight," Long Beach State Head Coach Rob Murray said. "Once we settled in, we got it going in the right direction. There is still a lot of golf ahead of us and a lot to play for."
Seeber led the Beach with a 67 in the opening round after he birdied eight holes. Seeber is just four strokes shy of tying Tegan Andrews of Cal State Fullerton, who sits at the top of the leaderboard.
Sophomore Jaden Huggins finished the first round with an even 72 as he sunk five birdies in the opening round to place in a tie for ninth place.
Steen Zeman birdied holes five and six, but countered them with three bogeys to finish one-over par in a tie for 11th place.
Reigning Big West Golfer of the Month, Charlie Forster, had a close first round as well as he shot 2-over to place in a tie for 14th.
Jack Cantlay rounded out the Beach lineup with a 3-over par showing to finish tied for 20th heading in to the second round.
The second round begins Monday, April 29 and Long Beach State will tee off at 10 a.m. Second Rounds scores will be available via GolfStat.com.
