Simon Torwie Wins His Third Big West Defensive Player Of The Week Award

Senior middle blocker Simon Torwie led the Beach to their third-straight Big West Regular Season Title
IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the final men's volleyball weekly awards of the season, and Long Beach State's Simon Torwie secured this third Defensive Player of the Year honor of the year. Throughout his four-year career, Torwie has earned the weekly honor eight times.
The nation's leader in blocks per set (1.34), Torwie's stout defense helped the Beach capture their third-straight Big West Regular Season Title and the No. 1 seed in The Big West Championships. The senior middle blocker finished the week averaging 1.33 blocks per set, to go along with 1.33 kills per set on a .375 attack percentage.
Torwie started the week with three blocks, while adding four kills in Friday's straight-set loss at UC Irvine. He came back the next day and responded with a five-block performance at the Walter Pyramid. Torwie also chipped in four kills on a .500 (4-0-8) hitting percentage for the sweep in the regular-season finale.
This season, Torwie has helped Long Beach State to a nation-leading 3.26 blocks per set average.
