Beach Volleyball Hosts The Beach Invitational

Long Beach State will host their first home matches of the season this weekend.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Beach Volleyball will host the Beach Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at Long Beach City College, their home site for the season.
The Beach will play their first home matches of the season on Saturday against Southern Miss at 10 a.m. and Stetson at 2 p.m. On Sunday they take on FIU at Noon. and LMU at 3 p.m. They will also play host to Santa Clara and Cal Poly in the tournament.
The team finished the Battle For LA with two wins and two losses. The losses were hard fought battles against USC and UCLA, the two top teams. They couldn't avoid the sweep from defending champions USC but Deroos and Widener, who went 3-1 on the weekend, were able to beat their UCLA opponents after three close sets. In the third set, the pair pulled away and secured the team's only dual point against the Bruins. The pair also had a great performance against Washington, staying in control of the game during both sets. This was the first time the two teams had faced each other, and it was a close match. The Beach took the first dual point in the fourth flight but the Huskies answered back with wins of their own. It would come down to the top pair of Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah to secure the win for the Beach. The duo, who are no strangers to pressure, were able to defeat their opponents in straight sets to take the match.
