Malayna Terrones Selected As Big West Freshman Of The Week

The local product had a pair of home runs last week, one in each of the team’s wins.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's Malayna Terrones was named the Big West Freshman of the Week after a pair of home runs in a pair of victories for the Beach.

A two-run home run from the Los Alamitos High School product helped kick start Long Beach State's 7-6 win over Michigan in the team's home opener, as Terrones gave the Beach their first lead. Terrones also had a hit as part of Long Beach State's seven runs scored against No. 17 Texas A&M, and hit another two-run shot as part of Long Beach State's 14-6 win over San Jose State, scoring a pair of runs after also reaching on a hit by pitch.

Slugging .643 over six games last week, Terrones is the first Big West weekly selection for Long Beach State in the 2024 campaign. The Beach hosts their annual Louisville Slugger Invitational this week, starting Wednesday morning when Long Beach State takes on Toledo with a morning first pitch at 10 a.m.
