Simon Torwie Wins Big West Defensive Player Of The Week Honor

Senior middle blocker Simon Torwie claimed the defensive weekly honors for the seventh time in his career
IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the weekly Men's Volleyball award winners and Long Beach State's Simon Torwie took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
The weekly honor comes on the heels of his Big West Offensive Player of the Week award and is Torwie's first Defensive accolade of the 2024 season. The 6-foot-10 Torwie earned the honors after leading No. 2 Long Beach State to a four-set win over No. 9 Penn State last week.
Against the Nittany Lions, Torwie put up nine blocks, while hitting .429 (3-0-7) with three kills, two aces, and one assist as he helped the Beach limit Penn State to a .132 attack percentage.
On the year, Torwie is averaging 1.26 blocks per set, which ranks him second in The Big West and fifth in the country.
Torwie and Long Beach State open Big West action this week against UC Santa Barbara. The Beach and the Gauchos face off in Long Beach, Calif., on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m., before playing each other up in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Saturday, March 9 at 6 p.m.
