Long Beach State Downs Hawaii Pacific, 4-0, On The Road

The Beach defeat the Sharks in a clinch/clinch match on the islands
KAILUA, Hawaii – The Long Beach State Women's Tennis team kicked off their Hawaiian Islands road swing with a 4-0 clinch/clinch victory over Hawaii Pacific at the Kailua Tennis Club on Saturday evening.
The Beach (4-3) got off to a solid start in doubles action. Paulina Franco Martinessi and Mathilde Tranberg got things going for LBSU as they earned a 6-1 victory over the Sharks (1-1) pair of Vera Markovic and Sara Hejtmankova, 6-1.
The tandem of Doga Akyurek and Hana Becirovic Novak won the doubles point for Long Beach State with a 6-2 victory over Isabel Heupgen and Leonie Mueller. Once the doubles point was won, the teams went straight into singles action.
Singles competition was also played until a team clinched the match, and the remaining matches were stopped.
Tranberg led the way for Long Beach State in singles in flight six as she took down Lynn Kader 6-0, 6-1 to put the Beach up 2-0.
Long Beach State extended its lead to 3-0 after Akyurek claimed flight three, 6-3, 6-2, over Hejtmankova.
Sarah Medik, who was playing at flight five clinched the match for the Beach as she defeated Markovic in a 6-2, 6-2 contest.
Beach Tennis will be back in action on Sunday, March 3 against Big West foe Hawaii. First serve is set for 2:30 p.m. (HT)/4:30 p.m. (PT) at the UH Tennis Complex.
