Torwie Wins Eighth-Career Big West Defensive Player Of The Week Award

Simon Torwie led Long Beach State to a pair of victories over then-No. 1 Hawaii with a huge blocking performance
IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State's Simon Torwie collected his eighth-career Big West Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday after leading the Beach to a pair of wins over then-No. 1 Hawaii last weekend. Torwie has now won his second Big West Defensive honor in the last two weeks.
Last weekend, Torwie was unstoppable at the net as he averaged 2.00 blocks per set to go along with 1.50 kills per sent on a .500 hitting percentage (12-1-22). With Torwie leading the way, the Beach averaged 3.88 blocks per set after totaling 10.5 total team blocks on Friday, before putting up a season-high 20.5 on Saturday.
Torwie started the week with a strong showing of six blocks and six kills, while hitting .750 (6-0-8) in Friday's sweep.
The next night, he tied his career-high with 10 blocks, while adding six kills on a .357 (6-1-14) clip to help the Beach secure the win in a five-set thriller.
On the year, Torwie is averaging 1.34 blocks per set to rank second in The Big West and third in the nation.
