No. 13 Women's Water Polo Falls To No. 11 LMU On Final Day Of Triton Invite

The Beach are back in action next weekend at San Diego Mini

LA JOLLA, Calif.- No. 13 Long Beach State fought hard in back-and-forth battle with No. 11 LMU, but came up short, 10-9 to take 10th place in Triton Invite. 

The Lions would strike first, scoring in the first thirty seconds. The Beach would respond exchanging goals to end the first tied 3-3. Rachael Kowalchick got the team rolling to start the second quarter after finding the back of the cage and the Beach would end the half up 5-4. 

To start the second half, LMU scored another early goal to tie the game. Elisa Portillo and Grace Cuozzo each scored two goals to increase the Beach lead. The Lions would match with four goals of their own to even the score to 8-8 at the end of the third quarter. LMU started the final quarter with two straight goals late in the period. Martina Cardona's goal at 2:18 would make it a one point game, but ultimately the Beach would fall 10-9. 

Offensively for Long Beach State, Portillo, Cardona, and Cuozzo led the way with two goals each, while Lara Luka, Kowalchick, and Chiara Amoroso contributed one goal. 
 

The Beach are back in action next week at the San Diego State Mini Tournament.  First game will be Saturday, February 10th at 10:30 a.m. against Cal State Monterey Bay followed by a 1 p.m. game against host No. 18 San Diego State.
