Mason Briggs Earns Big West Defensive Player of the Week Honors for the Second Time This Season

Briggs averaged 3.38 digs per set to lead the top-ranked Beach defense in a split last week against No. 4 UCLA

IRVINE, Calif. – The Big West announced the Weekly Men's Volleyball Player of the Week awards on Monday afternoon and Long Beach State's Mason Briggs picked up his second honor of the season, and sixth overall award.

The senior libero led No. 1 Long Beach State last week with 3.38 digs per set after totaling 27 digs over two matches. Briggs recorded 11 digs in a 3-1 win on Friday night, while adding four assists and logging 34 receptions against just one error in front of a sellout crowd of 4,303 at the Walter Pyramid.

Briggs came back the next night at Pauley Pavilion and registered a season-high 16 digs to go along with two assists and 33 receptions, while committing just two errors.

The Valencia, Calif., native currently leads The Big West with 2.37 digs per set, a mark that ranks him eighth in the nation.

Briggs and the Beach will host Central State and Edward Waters this week on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the Walter Pyramid.
