Long Beach State Dominates Cal State Fullerton In Straight Sets

The Beach hit .338 and never allowed the Titans to score more than 13 points in a single set

FULLERTON, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team turned in a dominant performance on Friday night at Titan Gym as the Beach swept Cal State Fullerton, 3-0 [25-13, 25-11, 25-11].

The Beach (14-9, 8-5 Big West) hit .338 in the contest, while putting up 9.0 total team blocks. The solid LBSU defense forced the Titans (4-19, 0-13 Big West) into 27 attack errors as Cal State Fullerton hit -.071 on their way to dropping their 14th-straight match.

Senior setter Maura Hayes got her second-straight start and led the Beach to their seventh match in which they hit over .300. Hayes spread the ball around getting four players five or more kills as she finished the contest with 16 assists, three digs, and two aces. Hayes split setter duties with freshman Madi Collins who turned in a solid showing with eight assists, six digs, and a pair of aces.

Seniors Natalie Glenn and Kameron Bacon led the offensive attack with seven kills each. Bacon hit .667 (7-1-9) and also led the defense with five blocks. Meanwhile, Glenn hit .500 (7-1-12), while chipping in three blocks and two digs.

Freshman opposite Madi Maxwell continued her efficiency as she posted six kills, five digs, three blocks, and two aces.



At libero, the Beach platooned Jenna Giambi and Sarah Vellucci. Giambi led the way with 12 digs to anchor the defense.

Long Beach State got things going early as the Beach scored four-straight points to take a 5-3 lead over the Titans. After going on a 6-1 run, highlighted by a kill and a block assist from Grace O'Reilly, Cal State Fullerton called for a timeout as they trailed, 13-6. The Beach pulled away after scoring five-consecutive points to take an 18-9 lead. LBSU went on to take the first set, 25-13.

The second set saw Long Beach State go on a pair of 4-0 runs early in the frame. Following the second four-straight points scored, Cal State Fullerton called a timeout as the Beach led 10-4. LBSU opened up an 11-point lead (20-9) after a kill from Maxwell, before closing the set on a 5-0 run to win, 25-11.

Leading the Titans 2-0, Long Beach State came out in the third set and hit .304, while Cal State Fullerton was forced into a negative attack percentage (-.100). Back-to-back kills from Ella Lomigora jump started an 8-0 LBSU run that put the Beach up 16-7. Long Beach State continued to surge ahead tallying six-straight points as the Beach put the game out of reach, 23-10, before winning 25-11.

Cal State Fullerton was led by Lyla Traylor who recorded seven kills, while setter Ryleigh Garis dished out 17 assists, and libero Ashley Chacon logged seven digs.

The Beach will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9 at UC Irvine for the Black and Blue Rivalry game. First serve is set for 4 p.m., in the Bren Events Center. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
