Long Beach State went 6-1 in singles on the final day in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – True freshman Daria Malaescu won both of her matches again on Sunday, finishing the UNLV Fall Tournament 6-0 and winning her flight in both singles and doubles as Long Beach State closed out the fall portion of their schedule at the UNLV Fall Tournament.

Playing in flight three, Malaescu cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kaho Oyama of the hosts, UNLV, to win her singles flight, and in doubles with Diana De Simone, the pair dispatched Nutsa Tsintsadze and Nicole Kells 6-3 to win flight two. Those two victories gave Malaescu three singles wins in Vegas along with a perfect 3-0 doubles mark with De Simone to finish the weekend unbeaten.

That was part of a strong singles day on the whole for the Beach, who went 6-1 across all action. De Simone also had two wins, defeating Cindy Hu of UNLV 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 to capture third place in flight one, while Cecilia Costa was the consolation winner of that flight with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Mariana Zurita of Utah Tech.

Since Badillo and Jagare were scheduled to play each other in the flight two consolation final, so the two faced other opposition and each picked up a win, Badillo rolling over Tsintsadze 6-3, 6-2, and Jagare bouncing back strong after a set one loss in a 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 victory. Paulina Franco Martinessi took the only singles loss of the day, also in flight three. Daisy Carpenter finished the flight four round robin with a 2-1 record after defeating Zarina Novruzova of UNLV 6-2, 6-2.

In flight one doubles, Carpenter joined Badillo for the final day and the duo finished with a 6-1 win over Zurita/Inouye of Utah Tech. Costa and Jagare played for the flight one championship, but lost to the top pair from the hosts UNLV by a 6-2 margin.
"I thought this was a really strong end to our fall semester," said head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We competed well this weekend and won an impressive 21 out of 30 total matches in our time at UNLV."

Long Beach State will return to action in January, hosting the Beach Tennis Winter Invitational at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
