The Beach Start the 2024 Season 2-0 After Dominant Offensive Performance

No. 7 Long Beach State scored over 20 goals in both wins.
LONG BEACH, Calif.- No. 7 Long Beach State Women's Water Polo team began their 2024 season out strong with big wins over No. 25 Biola and California Baptist.
The Beach offense shined to go 2-0 on the day. Senior Lara Luka led all players with 10 goals and five assists on opening day.
In their first game against Biola, the Beach stayed in command the entire game to secure their first win of the season 20-6. The Beach offense was firing from all positions as six different players found the back of the net, with 12 goals coming in the first half.
Mariah Walker and Lara Luka start their senior year out strong, combining for half of the team's points. Walker scored a career-high six goals to lead the Beach while Luka added four goals.
The Beach defense also had a strong day, where they had 13 steals to hold the Eagles to just six goals. Elisa Portillo led all players with four steals. The Beach held Biola to a scoreless fourth quarter to take the match.
The Beach continued their hot start in the second game against the California Baptist Lancers with a score of 23-9, including a 10-0 scoring run in the first half. Luka contributed a career-high six goals and two assists in the win.
Chiara Amoroso made her official college debut and added a total of seven goals between the two games, good for second highest scorer of the day.
The Beach defense continued to show out in the second match, posting 12 steals and keeping their double-digit lead.
Long Beach State will host their alumni in an exhibition match this Sunday, January 21 at noon, and then will be back in action Friday, January 26 as they take on Loyola Marymount on the road.
