Long Beach State Men’s Golf Kicks off the 2023-24 Season at the Ram Masters Invitational The defending Big West Champions open the year on Wednesday, September 6
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Men's Golf team is set to open the 2023-24 season at the Ram Masters Invitational hosted by Colorado State on Wednesday, Sept. 6. The two-day tournament will feature 13 teams and will take place at the Fort Collins Country Club.
The 13-field team is comprised of host, Colorado State, Cal State Fullerton, Creighton, Idaho, Kansas City, Morehead State, Southern Utah, Tarleton State, Utah Tech, Utah Valley, Wyoming, and Xavier.
Long Beach State is looking to build on the success it had a year ago when the Beach captured their fourth Big West Title and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
This season, Long Beach State returns seven players from a year ago, including All-Big West selections Isaac Rodea (First Team), Jack Cantlay (Freshman of the Year, Second Team), and Jaden Huggins (Honorable Mention). Additionally, head coach Rob Murray, who was named Co-Coach of the Year, will be back at the helm for his second season.
Joining the Beach this season are four newcomers in Alejandro de Castro Piera, Charlie Forster, Norwin Gohm, and Steen Zeman. De Castro Piera is a sophomore transfer from Anderson University in South Carolina where he was named Freshman SAC Player of the Year. Forster comes to LBSU from Southeastern Louisiana where he was named 2023 Southland Conference Player of the Year in his sophomore season. Gohm and Zeman are incoming freshmen.
The Beach will tee off at 8 a.m. on the back nine as they will send their lineup of Huggins, Forster, Cantlay, de Castro Piera, and Clay Seeber out on the green. Gohm will also see action in the tournament, as he competes as an individual.
