The Beach is one of 15 teams at the inaugural event hosted by Purdue.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Golf begins the season on Labor Day by competing in the Boilermaker Classic, hosted by Purdue at the Kampen-Cosler course in West Lafayette, Ind.
The tournament will feature three rounds over September 4-5, with a shotgun start beginning at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT each day at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
"This is the first year that Purdue has hosted a fall tournament, and I wanted to change it up a little bit in terms of how we would begin the year," said head coach Alyssa Waite. "This will be a great challenge going east to play some teams that we haven't seen before and experience some different weather, some different grasses and get a challenge from teams that we might see later in the year in a Regional."
Long Beach State will be the only Western team participating in the event with a field that features Alabama, Ball State, Charlotte, Georgia Southern, Indiana, James Madison, Louisville, Mercer, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Old Dominion, Rutgers, Western Kentucky and the hosts, Purdue.
The reigning Big West Freshman of the Year and Big West Individual Champion Jasmine Leovao will lead off the lineup for the Beach in the opening weekend, while her twin sister Janae will play third and Madison Le will play fifth, a trio of sophomores looking to continue to make a big impact in their second seasons.
"I think it's really promising for the sophomores that they worked really hard over the summer and it's paying off," noted Waite. "They came in prepared and are really motivated to keep going right from where we left off."
The young team will also have one freshman making their debut as Andee Avery has impressed early and will play in the second slot in the lineup. "I'm so excited for our freshman class, we have good players who are hungry to be here and are going to make their mark quickly," said Waite.
Finally, Angelina Kim will round out the lineup, playing fourth as the long upperclassman on this first trip. The senior will get the opportunity to showcase her leadership skills immediately. "She's a great mentor to all of our younger student-athletes which is extremely helpful," Waite said about Kim. "The biggest thing is that she's our stable core – we can count on her week in and week out to know what's going on and what we need to do in this program to succeed."
Live scoring will be provided by Spikemark golf, a new NCAA partner managing scoring for the 2023-24 campaign. Updates throughout the tournament can be found at https://spikemark.com/tournament-leader-board/64d633e3f659799a6009cc67.
