Laramie’s Program Record Four Goals Carries Beach to Win Over BC

8/19/2023 10:16:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Elysia Laramie is the first player in program history to score four goals in a single game.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State women's soccer topped Boston College, 4-2, on the back of captain Elysia Laramie on Saturday night. The sixth-year senior scored all four goals on the night, the most goals in a single-game in program history.

After a quiet half from both sides to start the game, the Beach and Eagles came out of the break in a scoreless tie. Over the next 16 minutes, history was made.

In the 47tha minute the Beach fired back-to-back shots, both of which were saved, but the second rebound went straight to Laramie for the finish and her first goal of the night. Just under 10 minutes later, Cherrie Cox sent a ball down field for Julia Moore. Approaching the box, she sent a perfect cross in to Laramie for goal number two.

Not five minutes later in the 61st minute, Cox dribbled around a Boston College defender and once again Laramie was there for the finish and the hat trick. It is the tenth hat trick in program history after Lena Silano recorded the ninth last season. It is also the fastest hat trick for the program since 2008.

The senior captain was not done there as just 44 seconds later, goal number four was scored. This time, it came on a header off a beautiful pass into the box from Kana Uchida.

History was also made on the passing side of the ball as Cox becomes just the fifth in program history to register at least three assists in a game since 2003. The last time it was done was during the 2013 season.

Despite the 4-0 deficit, Boston College started to rally back with a Beach own goal ending the shutout in the 74tha minute. Just 30 seconds after that, Ella Richards sent a perfect strike over the keeper for the second Eagle goal of the night.

The Beach settled down though as they held on for the final 15 minutes to pick up their first victory of the season, 4-2.

On the defensive side of the ball, Zora Standifer was perfect in net with 87 minutes of shutout soccer, making three saves.

Long Beach State will be back in action next week for their first road contests of the year. Their first game of the week will be in Provo against No. 13 BYU before a trip down I-5 on Sunday to take on San Diego State.
