Aiden Pastorian’s PR saw the freshman break 60 feet in the shot put.

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Aiden Pastorian became just the fifth thrower in Long Beach State history to break 60 feet in the shot put, ultimately placing in fourth place overall at the USATF U20 Championships on Saturday.

Pastorian had a monster day, smashing his previous best with a throw of 18.91 meters (62'0.5" feet) in his third throw of the day, a mark that would hold good for a finish just off of the podium on the day. That throw was nearly six feet greater than the junior's previous best in the event.

The mark is the third best in program history in the shot put, and he becomes just the fifth Long Beach State thrower to surpass 60 feet in the shot put, last accomplished by Vic Martin in 2015.

TJ Wiggins also competed in the throwing events for Long Beach State on the day in the discus. Also with his best in the third throw of the day, Wiggins just missed out on the Top 8 to receive three additional throws, ultimately taking 10th place overall with a best throw of 52.06 meters (170'9").

Competing with her pole vault club and unattached from Long Beach State, Freshman Annie Murphy finished in a tie for eighth place overall, easily clearing 3.85m (12'7.5") in her first attempt. She was unable to top the next bar progression of 4.00m, however, a mark that would have been a personal best.
