As the individual Big West Champion, Leovao earned the right to compete in the NCAA Postseason this coming week at TPC San Antonio.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Freshman Jasmine Leovao will represent Long Beach State as an individual in the upcoming NCAA Regional round, taking part in the San Antonio Regional hosted at TPC San Antonio beginning next Monday from May 8-10.
The Big West Freshman of the Year, Jasmine Leovao is one of six individuals to compete at that regional site, and will face a field of 12 teams of Texas A&M, Auburn, Pepperdine, Oklahoma State, SMU, UCLA, New Mexico, Denver, Illinois, Sam Houston, ULM and Missouri State.
Competition from San Antonio is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. CT/6 a.m. PT Monday morning, but as an individual Leovao will be hitting the course in the last pairing just prior to 8 a.m. PT on Monday. In the second and final rounds, Leovao and the individuals are scheduled to tee off at 6:55 a.m. PT.
Leovao punched her ticket to the NCAA postseason with an outstanding tournament at the Big West Championship. Starting the tournament with a LBSU record round at the championship with a 6-under 66, Leovao led wire-to-wire, winning individual medalist by three strokes. She was the top finisher for Long Beach State in each of the team's final four tournaments, and comes into the postseason in a tremendous run of form.
Jasmine becomes the fourth separate golfer to compete as an individual for Long Beach State, and the first freshman since LBSU Hall of Famer Kay Hoey in 2005. Hoey was a two-time indy selection, as was Kassidy Teare, while Holland Shourds competed for the Beach in 2021 after also winning the Big West individual championship.
As an individual, Leovao will need to finish as one of the two lowest scorers outside of the advancing teams to participate in the NCAA Finals which will be held May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
