Long Beach State Ranked No. 8 in Final Season Poll

The Beach finish the season with their highest final ranking since 2013.

LONG BEACH, Calif—The Long Beach State women's water polo team finished the 2023 season with its highest final ranking since 2013.
 
The Beach landed at No. 8 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association final poll following the conclusion of the season.
 
Long Beach State finished the season 18-8 with a 5-2 record in the Big West leading them to a No. 3 seed in the conference tournament where they defeated the No. 6 seed UC Santa Barbara before falling to eventual runners-up Hawai'i.  
 
Three different Long Beach State athletes earned all-Big West honors as freshman Elisa Portillo led the way being named to the Big West First Team and All-Freshman team. Portillo led the team in scoring with 55 goals and added 19 assists.
 
Rachael Kowalchick earned second team honors after scoring 52 goals this season, and Martina Cardona was named to the honorable mention after scoring 41 goals, leading the team in assists with 24, and having the fourth best sprint percentage in the conference.
