Dirtbags Shutout in Game Two Against Hawai’i

Long Beach State has suffered their second consecutive series loss.
HONOLULU, Hawai'I – Saturday night saw a pitcher's duel at Les Murakami Stadium, but Long Beach State was on the wrong end of the 2-0 final score dropping game two of the series to the University of Hawai'i. The shutout loss marks the Dirtbags' (22-14, 9-8 Big West) second consecutive series loss.
Nico Zeglin was brilliant in his start on the mound but earned a tough luck loss. The right-hander threw seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits and four walks while striking out 10 Rainbow Warriors on the night. It is his fourth quality start of the season and second outing with double-digit strikeouts.
Unfortunately, the grad transfer got no offensive support as the Dirtbag lineup registered just two hits on the night against Hawaii's Randy Abshier. The lefty was superb in his own right in the pitcher's duel tossing a complete game shutout.
After UH scored single runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, Long Beach State found themselves trailing by two heading into their final at-bats. The Dirtbag hitters would go down in order as Hawai'i secured the 2-0 victory.
Long Beach State will look to salvage a win in the series in the finale tomorrow. First pitch will be at 1:05 p.m. HT/4:05 p.m. PT.
