Jasmine Leovao Extends Lead As LBSU Climbs Leaderboard On Day Two At Big West Championship

Long Beach State moved up two places as the Beach sits one stroke behind Cal Poly entering the final round.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Freshman Jasmine Leovao extended her lead in the individual competition and the Beach made a big move on Monday, posting the best team score of the day to climb into second place, one stroke off of the lead at the Big West Championship.
Leovao bookended her day with birdies on 1 and 18, closing out a round of 72 that was tied for the second-best score of the day. After her monster 66 in the opening round, Leovao now holds a seven-stroke lead entering the final day at 6-under, while Nicole Neale of Cal Poly and Tiffany Le are tied for second at +1.
Also carding an even par 72 on Monday, Hannah Ko is one spot back of that trio in a tie for fourth overall after a great finish. Coming in with back-to-back birdies Monday, Ko helped the Beach charge up the leaderboard as LBSU now has two players in the Top 5.
Angelina Kim shot a three-over 75 on Monday in a great bounce-back round for the junior, while Janae Leovao also had a strong finish with birdies on 15 and 18 at Spanish Trail Country Club to come in with a score of 76. Sophomore Kristina Ponomareva shot 82 on the day as the team's drop score Monday.
With Long Beach State's team score of 295 on Tuesday, the best round of the day by four strokes, the Beach was able to leapfrog Cal State Fullerton and UC Riverside into second place in the competition, and will go head-to-head with Cal Poly tomorrow, one stroke behind the Mustangs entering the final day.
