Women’s Golf In Fifth After First Day At Silicon Valley Showcase

MILLBRAE, Calif. – Long Beach State is in the thick of the competition at the Silicon Valley Showcase, fifth out of the nine teams in the final competition of the year prior to the Big West Championship.
Freshman Jasmine Leovao was the top scorer for the Beach on the day. Leovao scored an even-par 71 in the first round with a pair of birdies before a 77 in the second round, finishing the day in a tie for 11th overall on the day.
Junior Hannah Ko also had a strong first day, shooting 76 in the first round before rising eight spots in the second round with a team-low 74, ending the day also in the Top 20 in a tie for 17th overall.
Janae Leovao got off to a quick start on the day on the way to a 76 in the first round followed by a second-round 77, finishing the day in a tie for 23rd overall, while Angelina Kim had matching scores of 79 on the first day of competition. Freshman Madison Le had a solid first round 79 on the way to finishing the day in a tie for 43rd overall.
No. 1 Stanford ended the day in the team lead, one stroke ahead of No. 25 Pepperdine on the day. The Beach is within striking distance of the rest of the unranked competitors, starting Tuesday eight strokes behind the hosts, Santa Clara.
The final round is set to start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the final round of competitive play for Long Beach State before next week's Big West Championship.
