Medellin Big West Freshman Of The Week For Second Time

Medellin was Long Beach State’s leading hitter in a pair of wins at the San Diego Classic.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's Makayla Medellin was named the Big West Freshman of the Week for the second time in the young season.
Medellin was Long Beach State's top hitter at last weekend's San Diego Classic, leading the Beach with a .385 batting average while starting all four games. Medellin scored three runs, had a stolen base, and finished the weekend 5-for-13 with a pair of doubles, including a 3-for-3 day on March 4 against Boston.
Monday's award marks the second time Medellin has earned Big West Freshman of the Week, as the Yorba Linda, Calif. Native took the honor after hitting two home runs during the opening week of the season at the Arizona Candrea Classic.
