No. 14 Beach Volleyball Closes Out Day Two of the Best in the West with a Win Over Cal Poly

The Beach split the day once again as they beat Cal Poly and lost to Hawai’i.
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – No. 14 Long Beach State finished day two of the Best in the West Tournament with another win over Cal Poly and a loss against No. 9 Hawai'i to end the tournament with two wins and two losses.
The Beach (2-4) came into the day with confidence as they looked to take down Cal Poly (0-8) once more. They defeated almost all pairs in straight sets. The duo of Sydney Stevens and Julia Westby were looking for redemption as they lost to Cal Poly in the third set during yesterday's match. Today they took their third set all the way to 22-20 and finished with a kill off of the block.
Christine DeRoos and Mari Molina were looking for their first win as a duo after two losses yesterday. The sets were close, and both finished 21-19 in favor of the Beach. DeRoos got a huge block to close out the dual and take the sweep for Long Beach State.
Hawai'i (7-3) proved to be a tough opponent as they split the first flight. Emily Mattoon and Megan Widener ended their weekend with their only loss. Westby and Stevens capped off their second win of the day in straight sets. The dual came down to DeRoos and Molina as they pushed Hawai'i into a third set after dominating the second set 21-14. They fought hard but came up short, 15-5.
Long Beach State looks to take on No. 12 Cal and No. 18 Pepperdine Monday, March 6 for their rescheduled matches. Games will be played at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in Malibu, Calif.
