The Beach is back in action after having two individuals tie for first after 54 holes at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a brief respite, Long Beach State Women's Golf is back in action, starting off with the Fresno State Classic this weekend hosted by the Bulldogs at the San Joaquin Country Club in Fresno.
That tournament marks the first of four straight weeks of action for Long Beach State, concluding with the Big West Championship at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas.
The Beach is coming off of a strong performance in their last outing at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, placing first and second after a playoff in the individual standings, and taking third place overall in the 11-team field from Hoakalei Country Club in O'ahu.
Angelina Kim was the individual medalist at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, winning the two-hole playoff against Hannah Ko, and will lead the lineup for Long Beach State in Fresno, while Ko will play second for the Beach.
The freshman twins Janae and Jasmine Leovao will play third and fourth in the lineup for LBSU, while Kristina Ponomareva will round out the competition lineup for the second tournament in a row. Freshman Madison Le will also be in action at the Fresno State Classic, playing as an individual.
The field will be populated by a number of familiar foes for Long Beach State, with much of the Big West competing. In addition to the Beach, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, CSUN, CSU Bakersfield and Cal State Fullerton will be in Fresno, over half of the league taking advantage of the opportunity. Additionally, both the hosts Fresno State and Oral Roberts competed in Long Beach State's home tournament, The Beach Invitational in the end of the February, finishing behind LBSU at the time.
The remainder of the 14-team field includes Arkansas State, Grand Canyon, Nevada, Iowa, Rutgers and Xavier. Action throughout the tournament can be followed with live scoring through Golfstat at https://results.golfstat.com//public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=participants&tid=27087.
