Tennis Sweeps Santa Clara In Dominant Home Win

The Beach didn’t drop a set in the 7-0 victory.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Tennis dominated Santa Clara in convincing fashion with a 7-0 victory Saturday afternoon at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
To kick off doubles action, Sheena Masuda and Justine Dondonay controlled the action in flight one. The duo defeated Jenna Marie Gordon and Giulia Hayer in a quick 6-1 win. Shortly after Masuda and Dondonay's win, Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook finished their own commanding performance on flight two and defeated Dasee Carter and Varya Zlotnik 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for Long Beach State (5-7, 2-2 Big West). Ramstedt and Cook have continued to dominate in doubles play for the Beach. With the win, the tandem of Ramstedt and Cook improved to 10-4 in doubles over the dual season.
After garnering the doubles point, the Beach made quick work of the singles action as well.
Dondonay earned LBSU's second point of the day with a quick 6-3, 6-0 win over Anna Semler on court six.
Extending the lead to 3-0, Cook picked up a win in straight sets on court three, 6-1, 6-2 against Dasee Carter.
Masuda competed in a tight first set against Kacey Feng, but Masuda ultimately came out on top, 7-5, 6-2 to secure the Beach's fourth point and clinch their fifth victory of the season.
Continuing with the Beach's dominance over Santa Clara (0-8, 0-1 West Coast), Medik, who was playing at court one, collected a 6-0, 6-3 win over Jenna Marie Gordon.
Adding to Long Beach State's point total, Ramstedt and Mathilde Tranberg won their matches at courts two and four, respectively. Ramstedt kept her foot on the gas and beat Velizara Fileva, 6-0, 6-4. Picking up the Beach's final point of the day, Tranberg defeated Varya Zlotnik, 6-1, 6-4, ending the dual match 7-0 in favor of LBSU.
The Beach will return on Wednesday March 22 as they will host St. Thomas at 2 p.m. at the Rhodes Tennis Center. This match will conclude their seven game homestand before playing the next four matches on the road.
