Beach Men’s Golf Heads to the Bandon Dunes Invitational

Long Beach State will tee off on Sunday, March 12 and conclude the three-day tournament on Tuesday, March 14 at the Bandon Dunes Resort

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Men's Golf team looks to continue to build on their success from the previous tournaments this spring as the Beach heads to Bandon, Ore., to take part in the Bandon Dunes Invitational hosted by Idaho. The three-day tournament begins on Sunday, March 12 and will conclude on Tuesday, March at the Bandon Dunes Resort.

The 72-par course of 6,676 yards will play host to 18 teams in host Idaho, Oregon State, Oregon, Seattle U, Washington State, Boise State, San Jose State, Fresno State, Sacramento State, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, James Madison, Drexel, Seton Hall, Santa Clara, Utah, Air Force, and Long Beach State.

The Beach are coming off of a third-place finish at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana. LBSU turned in several solid performances as five Beach players finished in the Top 20.

At the Bandon Dunes Invitational, Long Beach State Head Coach Rob Murray is sending each of his Top 20 finishers to the green. Led by sophomore Ian Gilligan, the quintet of golfers teeing off on Sunday includes freshman Jack Cantlay, senior Isaac Rodea, freshman Jaden Huggins, and sophomore Steve Deutsch.

Gilligan, who is ranked No. 19 by GolfStat, looks to continue his hot sophomore campaign in which he has posted a pair of podium finishes this spring. The product out of Reno, Nev., was recently selected to the prestigious First Spring Fred Haskins Award Watch List as he heads into the Bandon Dunes Invitational with a stroke average of 68.6 over three spring tournaments.

Cantlay is coming off of his best performance of the season as he led Long Beach State at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate with a 68-74-64 showing. His 207 9-under par showing tied him for third at the tournament.

Rodea brings experience to the Beach as he is in his fourth year at Long Beach State. The San Diego, Calif., native comes into the Bandon Dunes Invitational after shooting par last week at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate as he finished in a tie for 18th place.

Huggins shot a 1-over par last week at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate as he looks to improve on his score this week in Bandon, Ore.

Rounding out the Beach starting lineup is Deutsch who competed last week as an individual and turned in a 4-under par performance as he placed in a tie for seventh place after firing a 70-73-69 for 212.
