Hannah Ko Ties For Second, Long Beach State Places Third At The Beach Invitational

The revamped event saw four players for Long Beach State finish in the Top 15.
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – After a rainy first day was cut short, the skies cleared for a beautiful second day at the Mission Viejo Country Club as Long Beach State's hosted tournament finished off 54 holes with the Beach taking third place overall behind four players finishing in the Top 15.
UCLA made a charge up the leaderboard in the final round to claim the team championship, while Zulaikah Nasser of Sam Houston was the individual medalist, finishing the event at a 6-over par 222, three strokes in front of Long Beach State's Hannah Ko and Andrea Bergsdottir of Colorado State.
Junior Hannah Ko featured her usual consistent play to great success on Tuesday, finishing both the second and third rounds with scores of 74 on the difficult course, rising up to claim a podium finish in the tournament at 9-over par across three rounds as Long Beach State's top scorer.
Long Beach State had three other golfers finish in the Top 15, helping the Beach finish in third place as a team in the 15-team event. The Beach ended up seven strokes behind No. 21 UCLA and just two strokes behind Colorado State in second place.
Jasmine Leovao finished in the Top 10 primarily on the strength of an excellent first round 73, ending the tournament with a score of 230. One stroke behind the freshman was Angelina Kim, with a second round score of 74 that lifted the junior to a tie for 11th. Janae Leovao rebounded with back-to-back rounds of 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 13th overall, one stroke behind Kim with a tournament score of 232.
Madison Le rounded out the playing lineup for Long Beach State, placing in 72nd overall. The Beach also had three individuals competing in the event, with sophomore Kristina Ponomareva placing the highest of the trio in a tie for 72nd place in front of Vanessa Richani and true freshman Isabella Ranches.
Long Beach State will be right back in action next week, taking part in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by Hawai'i. Played at Hoakalei Country Club, the tournament will be held over two days starting on March 6.
