Two Beach Tandems Crowned Doubles Champions At UNLV Watanabe Classic

Peppi Ramstedt/Rhona Cook and Doga Akyurek/Hana Becirovic Novak took home the title in their respective doubles matches
LAS VEGAS – Long Beach State had an excellent final day at the UNLV Watanabe Classic. The Beach claimed both doubles draw titles, and Mathilde Tranberg won the No. 4 Singles Draw final.
"We took full advantage of all our matches today and finished with very strong performances," said Long Beach State Head Women's Tennis Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "I'm proud of the team and their efforts this weekend."
Long Beach State got the final day going with two outstanding doubles outings. In the No. 1 Doubles Draw, Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook faced UNLV's Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao. The Beach duo was on fire as they rolled to a 6-2 victory to claim the title.
In the No. 2 Doubles Draw, Doga Akyurek and Hana Becirovic Novak went up against UNLV's Nikol Mircheva and Aura Fang. The Beach pair had to battle hard against the hosts and Long Beach State came out victorious as Akyruek and Becirovic Novak took down the Rebels, 7-6 (4), for the crown.
In singles action, Tranberg faced Fang from UNLV in the No. 4 Singles Draw finals. The senior from Horsholm, Denmark took the opening set, 6-4, before taking down Fang, 6-2, to earn the victory.
Long Beach State will be back in action January 19-21 for the Beach Tennis Winter Invite which is hosted at Rhodes Tennis Center.
