Two Long Beach State Pairs Advance To Doubles Finals At UNLV Watanabe Classic

The tandems of Peppi Ramstedt/Rhona Cook and Doga Akyurek/Hana Becirovic Novak advance to the finals in their respective draws
LAS VEGAS – On the second day of the UNLV Watanabe Classic, Long Beach State saw two doubles pairs advance to the finals in their respective draws. Additionally, Mathilde Tranberg turned in a solid performance in singles action as she advanced to the No. 4 Singles Draw finals.
In doubles action, Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook were excellent as they faced Salsa Aher and Zita Kovacs of host UNLV. The Beach duo battled the Rebels pair and came away with a hard-fought 6-3 victory to secure their spot in the finals. Ramstedt and Cook will go on to face UNLV pair Cindy Hu and Coco Zhao in the finals on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m.
In the No. 2 Doubles Draw, Doga Akyurek and Hana Becirovic Novak went up against UTSA's Magda Tuells and Eva Beyebach in the semifinals. The Beach tandem played hard and gritted out a tough, 6-4, win to advance to the finals on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. where they will face UNLV's pair of Nikol Mircheva and Aura Fang.
Tranberg was the lone Beach singles player to earn a victory in the semifinals. She went up against UNLV's Smilia Matovic and earned a 6-2 victory in the first set. The second, saw the two foes battle out a back-and-forth contest that saw Matovic edge out Tranberg, 7-6 (2). With the match tied 1-1, Tranberg came out strong in the third set and took down Matovic, 6-1 for the victory. Tranberg will now face UNLV's Fang in the No. 4 Singles Draw final on Sunday, Nov. 12.
