Long Beach State came away with three titles on the final day of the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior Justine Dondonay led Long Beach State on the final day of the Beach Tennis Fall Tournament as she won the Singles White Draw Championship. Along with partner Paulina Franco Martinessi, Dondonay also claimed the Doubles Black Draw title. Overall, the Beach claimed four titles on the final day of the tournament.

"It was a very productive weekend for us," said Long Beach State Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We swept the doubles draws with impressive performances from all four of our teams. We also had some strong singles wins throughout the weekend.

"Now it's back to work as we look to make more improvements before the Southwest Regionals in two weeks."

The productive weekend started with doubles action which pitted the Beach against the Beach. Dondonay and Franco Martinessi squared off against teammates Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook for the Black Draw Title. Dondonay and Martinessi were crowned the champions with a 6-1 victory.

In the Doubles Gold Draw, Mathilde Tranberg and Hana Becirovic Novak faced teammates Sarah Medik and Doga Akyurek. In an intense battle, Tranberg and Becirovic Novak won a gritty 7-6 (3) contest en route to winning the title.

Dondonay was equally impressive in singles action. The product out of Santa Clarita, Calif., went up against teammate Akyurek for the White Draw Title. Akyurek won the first set, 6-3, but Dondonay battled her way back to take the second set, 7-5. She earned the crown with a tough 6-2 victory in the third set to win her second title of the day.

In the consolation bracket of the Black Draw, Franco Martinessi picked up a win over CSUN's Emma Moratalla Sanz, 6-3, 6-4.
Medik defeated Boise State's Ana Conde Vendrell in the Gold Draw consolation bracket, 6-2, 6-3.

Rounding out the Beach winners on the final day of the tournament, Becirovic Novak earned a hard-fought win over UC Irvine's Larissa Teramura in the Grey Draw consolation bracket. The sophomore from Maribor, Slovenia earned a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory to pick up Long Beach State's fifth singles victory out of seven matches.

Long Beach State will return to action on Thursday, October 19 at the ITA Southwest Regionals. The four-day tournament will be held in San Diego, Calif.
