Long Beach State Extends Its Winning Streak To Five With 3-1 Win At UC Riverside

Elise Agi records a double-double and Kameron Bacon puts up a career-high nine blocks in the victory
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team turned in another strong performance on Thursday night as the Beach collected their fifth-straight victory with a 3-1 [25-14, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21] win at UC Riverside.
LBSU (15-6, 9-2 Big West) hit .279 in the match and posted 11.0 total team blocks, while holding UCR (4-19, 3-8 Big West) to a .101 attack percentage.
The Beach were led offensively by Elise Agi who finished the match with a double-double (13 kills, 12 digs). Also reaching double-figures were Katie Kennedy and Hanna Lesiak who recorded 10 kills each. Kennedy continued her efficient hitting as she posted an attack percentage of .625 (10-0-16) to lead the Beach.
Zayna Meyer paced LBSU with 38 assists, while also adding seven digs, three blocks, two aces, and one kill in another balanced performance.
Defensively, Kameron Bacon was unstoppable at the net. The junior middle blocker registered a new career-best as she put up 9 blocks in the contest. She was solid offensively as well with seven kills on a .375 clip (7-1-16). Lesiak and Natalie also provided blocking defense with four blocks each.
In the backrow, junior libero Savana Chacon led the way with 17 digs to help keep the Highlanders off balance throughout the match.
The Beach turned in a dominant first set as they took an early 5-0 lead and never looked back. Long Beach State hit an impressive .640 (16-0-25) as Meyer dished out 10 assists in the frame. LBSU held a comfortable lead throughout as they cruised to a 25-14 win.
UC Riverside awoke in the second set and used a 4-0 run to take a 15-14 lead over Long Beach State. The set was a back-and-forth affair, but another 5-0 run by the Highlanders put the hosts up by five (20-15) late in the game. UCR would go on to win 25-22 to even the match at 1-1.
Long Beach State regained their composure in the third set as they hit .355 in the game. The Beach opened the frame with a 4-0 lead and led the rest of the way. LBSU controlled the third set much like they did the first and went on to win 25-19 on a kill from Lesiak.
The fourth set was more competitive as the two teams battled through four ties and three lead changes. However, Long Beach State found its groove and settled into a solid lead the rest of the way. The Beach sent it to set point up six (24-18), before winning 25-21.
UC Riverside was led by Sophia Ewalefo who finished the match with 13 kills. Makena Tong and Beatriz Silva put up identical double-doubles (10 assists, 10 digs), while Anya Green posted four blocks.
Long Beach State will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 28 when they face UC Davis on the road. The match is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
