Long Beach State Wins Sixth-Straight Contest At UC Davis

The Beach had four players reach double-figures as they hit .328 in the victory
DAVIS, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Volleyball team continues to roll as the Beach earned their sixth-straight victory with a 3-1 [25-23, 28-30, 25-19, 25-16] decision at UC Davis on Saturday afternoon.
Zayna Meyer piloted the Beach (16-6, 10-2 Big West) to a .328 team hitting percentage as she tied her season-high with 50 assists. Meyer did an excellent job distributing the ball around as four Beach players recorded double-figure kills. LBSU was solid on both ends of the ball as they put up 10 total blocks to hold the Aggies (11-11, 6-6 Big West) to a .169 clip.
Leading the offensive attack for Long Beach State was Elise Agi who finished the match with a double-double as she recorded 18 kills and 13 digs, while hitting an impressive .515. Behind her, Natalie Glenn concluded the match with 14 kills on a .524 clip, while Hanna Lesiak registered 12 kills, and Katie Kennedy added 10.
Glenn also contributed nine digs in the backrow, while Savana Chacon chipped in seven.
At the net, Kameron Bacon posted six blocks to go along with four kills in the contest. Meyer added four blocks, while Kennedy contributed three.
Long Beach State opened the game with a quick 2-0 lead. But the Aggies were quick to counter and take a 9-6 advantage forcing the Beach to call a timeout. The Beach trailed by as many as five on two separate occasions, before a big block from Meyer and Bacon sparked an 8-0 run. The Beach turned their five-point deficit into a two-point lead (20-18). Davis wouldn't quit as the Aggies regained the lead, 23-22. But the Beach would score three-straight points to win, 25-23, on a block by Meyer and Kennedy.
The second set was an intense battle that saw 17 ties and seven lead changes. The conference foes kept the game close, with neither team leading by more than three points. UC Davis sent the game to set point (24-22), but the Beach wouldn't go quietly. The two teams saw seven points before the Aggies came away with a 30-28 victory to tie the match 1-1.
With the match tied at one set apiece, the Beach and the Aggies played each other tough in the third set. Long Beach State went on a 4-0 run to take a 17-12 lead over UC Davis. From there, the Beach held the lead the rest of the way, before winning 25-19 on a kill from Agi.
UC Davis kicked off the fourth set on a 4-1, but the Beach turned things around fast and went up 8-6 forcing a timeout from the Aggies. Long Beach State held the lead the rest of the way. The Beach led by as many as 10 points (21-11) after a block from Bacon and Lesiak. From there, LBSU cruised to a 25-16 victory.
Jade Light and Megan Lenn led UC Davis with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Mia Starr led the Aggies with 24 assists to go along with five blocks. Libero Julia Ng anchored the defense with 10 digs, while Ally Chandler posted six blocks.
Long Beach State returns home to the Walter Pyramid to face CSUN and Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, Nov. 3 and Saturday, Nov. 4, respectively. The match against the Matadors is set for 7 p.m., while the Beach and the Roadrunners will face each other at 3 p.m. Both matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
