Men’s Water Polo Ready For No. 4 USC And First Matchup With Cal State Fullerton Since 1986

The Beach will be lokoing to bounce back following two tough losses last weekend.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — After two tough losses last weekend, No. 8 Long Beach State will be looking to bounce back as they play two more games this weekend. On Friday, the Beach will welcome No. 4 USC to Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center at 7 p.m. before traveling to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at 7 p.m.
 
Robert Lopes Duart, Evan Cain, and Caleb Francisco all had strong weekends despite the two losses. Each player scored at least four goals in the two games. Lopez Duart now leads the team with 68 goals this season, while Cain is second with 48, and Francisco has 23.
 
USC (10-5) is coming off three straight road losses, including games against Long Beach State's most recent opponents, California and Stanford. Senior Massimo Di Martire leads the Trojans with 27 goals this season, with Max Miller just behind with 26. In goal for USC, Bernardo Herzer leads the team with 92 saves.
 
On Saturday, Long Beach State will head to Cal State Fullerton for their first matchup with the Titans since 1986. In their first season since relaunching the water polo program, Cal State Fullerton is 16-12 overall with a 0-3 start to Big West play. The Titans enter Saturday's contest having lost five of their last six games. The Beach will be looking to slow down Togan Ozbek, who leads the Titans with 53 goals this season. Just behind Ozbek are Julian Nichols and Dominic Hernandez with 47 and 45 goals respectively.
