Long Beach State’s 841 as a team was 23-under par, breaking the previous low team score by 13 strokes.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Long Beach State claimed its first regular season tournament championship since 2015 in striking fashion on Wednesday, pulling away from the field with a program record total score of 841 to win the Golf Iconic Classic.

The championship is the 12th team tournament win in program history, and the first in the regular season since 2015. Long Beach State won the 2018 and 2019 Big West Championships in the interim as well.

Wednesday, Long Beach State again posted the lowest team score of the 17 participating teams, going 6-under par to finish the tournament at 23-under par. That score represented a 13-stroke improvement on the previous program record for team tournament score of 854, set in 2015 at the Las Vegas Showdown and then matched by this 2023-24 squad in their last outing at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic.

The Beach took the tournament title by 14 strokes, besting the hosts New Mexico State who came in second place. Nevada, Boise State and UC Davis rounded out the Top 5 teams at the tournament. Long Beach State's 841 total represented a tournament record score.

Janae Leovao concluded her excellent tournament with a third consecutive round under par with a 2-under 70. That left the sophomore in second place overall in the tournament behind only individual medalist Leah John of Nevada.

The Beach also had four others finish in the Top 10. Sophomore Madison Le rounded out the best tournament of her collegiate career with an even par 72, finishing the tournament tied for sixth overall at three under par. Jasmine Leovao had five birdies on the day to claim the low score for LBSU on Wednesday with three-under par 69, climbing into a tie for 10th overall. Also in 10th was freshman Andee Avery, whose drop score of 74 represented the excellent play from LBSU both on the day and throughout the 54-hole tournament.

Senior Angelina Kim shot a 1-under par 71 Wednesday to help push the team score to 6-under  in the final round, and finished off the tournament tied for 28th overall in the 92-golfer field.

Competing as an individual in her first tournament, true freshman Erin Lee had an eagle on the par-5 15th hole and finished the tournament with a 74 in the final round, the best round of her young career.

The team's win came in the second year in a row that the Beach competed in the Golf Iconic Classic. Held on the same course, Long Beach State's 841 was a 25-stroke improvement on a score that saw the Beach claim 3rd place from the New Mexico State Golf Course one year ago. The win also marks the first fall tournament win for the program in 12 years dating back to 2011.

Long Beach State will close out the fall portion of the schedule in two weeks when the Beach participates in The Clash at Boulder Creek, held in Boulder City, Nev. The tournament will run over the course of three days from October 22-24, will be played at the Boulder Creek Golf Club and will once again be hosted by Northern Arizona.
