Clarke Godbold Named AVCA Men’s National Collegiate Player of the Week

Godbold earned the honors after leading No. 3 Long Beach State to a four-set road win over No. 4 Penn State

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The AVCA announced the Men's National Collegiate Player of the Week and Long Beach State's Clarke Godbold earned the weekly accolades.

Godbold picked up the honors after leading the No. 3 Beach to a gritty four-set road win over No. 4 Penn State as he tied his career-high with 17 kills while adding four blocks. The junior outside hitter from San Pedro, Calif., averaged 4.25 kills per set, while hitting .286, and averaging 1.00 blocks per set to go along with 4.75 points per set.

With Godbold leading the offensive attack, the Beach extended their winning streak to five, while snapping Penn State's 21-match regular-season home winning streak which dated back to Feb. 14, 2021.

Godbold and the Beach will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they host No. 12 Loyola Chicago at the Walter Pyramid. First serve is set for 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
