LBSU garnered three victories on the final day of tournament action.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - LBSU Tennis wrapped up play at the Beach Winter Invitational on Sunday, posting two victories in singles and one in doubles action. The tournament winner in singles goes to Andrea Burguete Beltran of Denver while Maria Martinez Vaquero and Simran Chhabra were declared tournament winners of doubles action.
The Beach began the day with a victory in doubles action. Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook remianed undefeated this weekend in doubles action. The duo garnered their victory against Caragh Courtney and Alicia Yue of San Francisco, with shut out score of 6-0. Ramstedt and Cook completed their weekend with a stellar 3-0 record to end tournament play.
In singles action, Mathilde Tranberg earned a grinding victory. As both respective schools were cheering their teammate on the court, Tranberg and San Francisco's Chiho Mushika battled in a nail-biting three game set. After falling short in the first set, Tranberg executed an impressive display of stamina in the second and third set. She executed quality forehand and backhand shots which ultimately became vital to her success on the court. She defeated Mushika with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).
Continuing with singles action, Peppi Ramstedt bounces back with a victory after a tough start to singles play. In a back-and-forth second set, Ramstedt held off Pacific's Olivia Weise chances on receiving a third set and defeated her with a score of 6-0, 7-5.
"It was a very productive weekend for us," said Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We have a game plan of things to work on over the next 10 days before our first home dual match against UC Riverside. As I told the team today, we are a work in progress, and we took a step forward this weekend towards the team we want to be in April.'
The team looks forward to getting back to Rhodes Tennis Center and remain optimistic as they prepare for conference action soon.
The Beach will be back on the court on Wednesday, February 1 at 2 p.m.
