Long Beach State Dominant to Begin 2023 Season

The Beach outscored their opponents 47-5 in the first two games of the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Long Beach State began their 2023 campaign in commanding fashion with big wins over Claremont and Whittier on Saturday during the Beach Invite.
The Beach outscored their opponents by a combined score of 47-5.
During the first game against Claremont, Long Beach spread the ball around efficiently as 12 different players found the back of the cage. Juniors Rachel Kowalchick and Anne de Kleer led the way with four goals each and Lara Luka followed with three to start her Long Beach career.
Kowalchick and de Kleer continued their hot starts to the season in the second game against Whittier. Kowalchick scored seven goals, putting her into double digits for the day with 11. Anne de Kleer also added another three goals to her tally.
The day was highlighted by the Beach defense, where they had 19 total steals. Junior Jamie Oberman led the team with four steals on the day.
Long Beach State will host their alumni for an exhibition match this Sunday, January 21 at noon, and then will be back in action at The Joust tournament where they will face USC on January 28.
