Beach Basketball Releases Competitive 2022-23 Schedule

Long Beach State will host the Beach Classic in December and will play a total of 14 home games this season

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team announced the 2022-23 schedule on Friday morning with a competitive slate of contests. This season will welcome fans back to the Walter Pyramid with no COVID-19 restrictions as the season begins this November.
The Beach have a tough non-conference schedule which features two nationally ranked teams from a year ago, three squads that made postseason appearances in the NCAA Tournament, and five teams that posted 20-plus win seasons last year.
Long Beach State opens the season on the road at Gonzaga, the reigning WCC Champions who made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22 with a 27-7 overall record. The Beach and the Bulldogs will kick off the season on Thursday, Nov. 10 in Spokane, Wash.
LBSU's home opener is set for Saturday, Nov. 12 against La Sierra at 6 p.m. inside the Walter Pyramid.
Following the home opener, the Beach hit the road for three contests as they head to Tucson, Ariz., to take on the Wildcats who finished the season ranked #19 in the AP Poll and made it to the NCAA Second Round with an overall mark of 21-8. LBSU and Arizona will face off on Sunday, Nov. 20. That game will be followed by the USF Tournament in San Francisco, Calif., which will be held on Nov. 25 and 26.
The Beach will return to the Walter Pyramid to host California Baptist, which went 23-9 last year and made an appearance in the WNIT. Long Beach State and CBU will go head-to-head on Saturday, Dec. 3.
A road trip up to Reno, Nev., to face the Wolfpack, which lost in the WBI third place game in 2021-22 with a 20-13 record, is set for Saturday, Dec. 8.
Long Beach State hosts the Beach Classic at the Walter Pyramid on Dec. 16 and 17 as the Beach welcome Big West foe UC Irvine, along with Dartmouth and Southern Miss to Long Beach. LBSU will face Dartmouth on Dec. 16, before closing out the tournament against Southern Miss on Dec. 17.
LBSU will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule on the road with games at Baylor and San Diego. The Beach will head to Waco, Texas to face Baylor on Wednesday, Dec. 21. The Bears are coming off a solid year in which they finished the season ranked seventh in the AP Poll after going 28-7 and making it to the NCAA Second Round. The Beach conclude the non-conference season against San Diego, which went to the Second Round of the WNIT last year, on Thursday, Dec. 29.
The Beach open the Big West Conference season at UC Riverside on New Year's Eve for a 4 p.m. contest, before coming home to start the New Year against CSUN and UC Irvine on Jan. 5 and 7, respectively.
Long Beach will then travel up the coast to Cal Poly on Wednesday, Jan. 11, before returning home to host Hawaii on Saturday, Jan. 14. Following the Hawaii contest, the Beach will take on Cal State Fullerton on the road on Thursday, Jan. 16.
Back-to-back home matches against UC San Diego and Cal Poly on Jan. 21 and 26, respectively, are followed by a Saturday, Jan. 28 contest at UC Davis.
LBSU starts the month of February against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday, Feb. 2 at home, before traveling to UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 4 and 9, respectively. CSU Bakersfield and UC Riverside come to the Pyramid on Feb. 11 and 15, respectively, and the Beach travels to Hawaii on Saturday, Feb. 18 to take on the reigning Big West Conference Champions on the island.
The Beach closes out the month of February with a home contest against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Feb. 23 and a road game at CSUN on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Long Beach State will play CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, March 2, before hosting UC Davis on Saturday, March 4 to wrap up the regular season.
The Big West Conference Tournament is set for March 7-11 in Henderson, Nev.
LBSU returns six players from a year ago led by redshirt senior Ma'Qhi Berry, senior Lauren Green, and redshirt junior Kianna Hamilton-Fisher. Additionally, the Beach welcome 10 newcomers to the family in six transfers and four incoming freshmen.
