
Gilligan and LBSU in First Place After Opening Rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational

Ian Gilligan shot a 66 and 64 in the first two rounds as he sits on top of the leaderboard with a 12-under par
KINGSBURG, Calif. – Sophomore Ian Gilligan leads the field of 93 golfers after a stellar performance in the opening rounds of the Nick Watney Invitational. The Beach also sits in first place as a team in the 16-team tournament.
Long Beach State finished the day on top of the leaderboard after strong 21-under par performance. Sitting in second place is Cal State Fullerton who trail the Beach by six strokes (-15), while Fresno State is in third (-12), followed by Grand Canyon (-10) and UC Irvine (E) in fourth and fifth respectively.
Gilligan started the day strong shooting a 5-under par 66 while sinking seven birdies. He stayed hot in the second round shooting a bogey-free 64 for 7-under bringing his birdie total to 14 on the day.
Senior Isaac Rodea continued his strong start to the season shooting 8-under par on the day and tied for fifth on the leaderboard. Freshman Jaden Huggins shot 2-under par and is tied for 14th place, while sophomore Steven Deutsch is 1-over par, and senior Bryce Kvick is 5-over par.
The Beach also sent freshman Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa to compete as an individual where he shot 2-under par and is tied for 14th place with Huggins.
Long Beach State is back in action on Tuesday, September 27 for the final round of the Nick Watney Invitational. Live Stats will be available at GolfStat.com.
