With 34 newcomers to the program this year, Long Beach State’s recruiting class is garnering national attention.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State's incoming class is garnering national attention ranking in the nation's top 30 recruiting classes by both Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball. Perfect Game ranked the Dirtbags at number 26 in the nation while Collegiate Baseball had them ranked 30th.

The PG ranking is the highest of all mid-major schools while the Collegiate Baseball rank is second. Both are the second best rankings among all the west coast teams, trailing just Oregon State.

Some of the big names out of the transfer portal joining the Dirtbags for the upcoming season include the reigning 2022 CCL ERA Title Winner from Arizona State, Graham Osman, the NCAA doubles leader last season from UNLV, Joey Walls, and 2022 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year recipient from Kansas, Jack Hammond.

A pair of familiar Big West players make the switch as well with Nick Marinconz (Cal Poly) and Jashia Morrissey (CSU Bakersfield) coming to LBSU after starting their careers elsewhere in the conference. Marinconz was an All-BIg West Second Team selection last year while Morrissey was a Big West Offensive Player of the Week in April.

Among the freshmen group includes the back-to-back Moore League MVP, Myles Patton, the 2022 Inland Valley Defensive Player of the Year, Armando Briseno, Ayala High School Hall of Famer, Ty Borgogno, as well as two other Pitcher of the Year recipients in Julian Orozco and Erick Diez.

Overall, there are 34 newcomers in the new class of Dirtbags. That number includes 15 transfers, six of which are coming from Power 5 schools, and 19 incoming freshman. The group adds stars and depth to every position on the diamond and surely sets the scene for an exciting 2023 campaign.
