Long Beach State dominated, taking down the ‘Runners in a 3-0 shutout.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State picked up their first Big West victory of the season with a dominant 3-0 shutout over CSU Bakersfield on Thursday night. It is the second clean sheet of the season for the Beach (2-4-4, 1-0-1 Big West).

After a pair of early shots on goal from the Beach that were saved, Elysia Laramie found the back of the net in the 22nd minute for an early 1-0 lead. On a perfect ball in from Maddy Perez on a corner kick, the redshirt junior had plenty of space to leap uncontested and send a header in for her first score of the season.

It goes as Laramie's fourth career game-winner after collecting three in the 2019 season.

The 1-0 score held into halftime with the Beach owning a 6-4 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.

Long Beach State came out of the break even more aggressive with Cherrie Cox and Aimee Medwin firing shots on target within the first three minutes of the second half.

The aggression paid off in the 50th minute as Lena Silano held possession in the corner passing it back to Summer Laskey, who chipped it into the box. From there, Julia Moore overpowered the CSUB defense and finished far post with her left to score the first goal of her collegiate career.

The Beach were not done there as Sophie Jones stole possession near the midfield line in the 88th and led Laskey down field with a perfect pass. The sophomore would outrun the back line to pick up the ball inside the box and ultimately cut back in and beat the diving keeper with her left foot to make it 3-0.

Zora Standifer was outstanding in net for the Beach picking up her first shutout of the season and third solo shutout of her career. She recorded two saves in the victory giving her 11 for the season.

The 3-0 shutout gives the Beach their second shutout of the season and extends their unbeaten streak against the 'Runners to five consecutive matches. For the match, LBSU outshot CSUB 19-6 (nine of the 19 were shots on goal) and held Bakersfield to just two second half shots.

Long Beach State is off this weekend, but will be back in action next Thursday as they host rival Cal State Fullerton.
