Softball Dominant In 8-0 Win Behind Samantha Fowler No-Hitter

5/6/2022 3:37:00 PM | Softball

Fowler matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts in five innings in the win.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State controlled all facets of Friday's opener against CSU Bakersfield, as Samantha Fowler dominated in the circle with 10 strikeouts in a no-hitter while the offense scored early and often on the way to an 8-0 walkoff win in five innings.

Fowler struck out 10 of the 16 batters she faced, and allowed just a single batter to reach on a hit batter in the first inning. The closest call she faced was in the top of the ninth inning on a hard hit ball to right field, but Rylie Seip fielded the ball cleanly and was able to get the out at first base beating Kayla Tadewosian.

The junior completed the 33rd no-hitter in program history, and finished with 10 strikeouts for the second time in three games.
Meanwhile, Long Beach State (26-20, 16-6 Big West) put together eight runs on eight hits to consistently put pressure on the CSU Bakersfield (8-32, 3-19 Big West).

Two hit batters and a walk loaded the bases with no outs in the first, and the Beach made the runners pay with a big inning. Kyra Snyder singled home the first run station to station to keep the bases loaded, and after an infield single by Jacquelyn Bickar brought home one more, Justine Briones singled through the middle to bring home a pair. Long Beach State led 4-0 after the first inning.

The Beach scored one more capitalizing on an error in the third, and then pinch hit RBI from Cassie Camou and Rylie Seip added two more runs in the fourth.

Pinch hitter Sinclair Lawhorn doubled to open the bottom of the fifth inning, and after moving to third on a groundout, easily scored on an RBI single from Naomi Hernandez to close out the game with a walkoff.
Long Beach State will host CSU Bakersfield for two more games Saturday in the final home games of the season for the Beach. LBSU will also recognize their six departing graduates in their senior ceremony following the conclusion of game two.
