Long Beach State ends their season with a 29-27 overall record and 17-13 mark in Big West play.
DAVIS, Calif. – The season finale went the way of Long Beach State, shutting out UC Davis (6-35, 5-25 Big West) on Sunday afternoon. The 3-0 victory marks the league-leading seventh shutout of the season for the Dirtbags.
It was the Juaron Watts-Brown show on the mound for the final time in 2022. The redshirt freshman turned in a quality start on the way to his fourth victory of the season throwing six shutout innings. On the day, he allowed just two walks and two hits while striking out a dozen Aggie hitters. It marks the fourth time in his last five outings he has notched double-digit strikeouts.
A strikeout of the leadoff hitter in the top of the first gave him his 100th of the season making him the first Dirtbag pitcher to reach the century mark since Clayton Andrews in the 2018 season. Watts-Brown finished the year just shy of the single-season top ten with 111 Ks in his debut season.
After Watts-Brown, Devereaux Harrison took over on the mound throwing the final three innings. The sophomore right-hander surrendered just three hits while striking out one on the way to his fifth save of the season.
Offensively, Rocco Peppi recorded all three RBI on the day, driving in the first run of the ballgame in the top of the third with a RBI single to left. The other two came on one swing in the top of the seventh with a bases loaded double down the left field line. He finished the weekend with seven runs batted in.
Sebastian Murillo reached base in all four of his plate appearances today, going 3-for-3 with a double and a walk. Chase Luttrell also turned in a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5 with a run scored.
