
Softball Ends Season With Win At Fullerton But Splits Doubleheader

Cal State Fullerton won the Big West with the series win as LBSU finished in second.
Both of the early runs in game one took advantage of speed on the basepaths manufacture scoring on strong pitching. In the bottom of the third. Megan Delgadillo singled to start the inning, and stole second before advancing on an overthrow to move into third. The Titans didn't have another hit in the inning, but the speedy Delgadillo came home on a fly to shallow center collected by Jacquelyn Bickar.
Bickar would answer back in the fifth. Hit by a pitch to get on base, Bickar stole second and then came around to score on a bloop single from pinch hitter Mikayla Ceballos to even the score at 1-1.
After hitting the walkoff home run on Friday, Daisy Munoz dashed the dreams of the Beach once again with the game-winning hit. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Munoz hit a solo home run to give Cal State Fullerton (36-20, 20-7 Big West) a 2-1 lead. Myka Sutherlin then finished off the game by retiring the Beach in order in the seventh to clinch the title for the Titans.
Sophia Fernandez struck out four and allowed just one earned run in the loss, while Sutherlin went the distance, striking out seven and allowing just three hits.
Long Beach State (29-22, 19-8 Big West) jumped on the Titans right way to open the second game. Ashleigh Inae started the game with a single, and after a hit batter, a single from Corissa Sweet loaded the bases for the Beach. A sacrifice fly from Ceballos put the Beach in front 1-0 after the top half.
Cal State Fullerton pushed across a run in the bottom of the first, but the Beach rallied for more in the second. A single from Sara Olson put a runner on in front of Maddy Ruffin, who homered to left field to make the score 3-1. The Beach added one more, taking advantage of a bases loaded error in the third to add one more for LBSU.

Ceballos cracked a opposite field home run in the sixth to add another run, as the sophomore went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI in the season finale. An Antuanettt Dean triple sparked a rally for the Titans in the bottom of the sixth to score a pair and cut the lead to 5-3. The Beach answered back in the top of the seventh, loading the bases in front of senior Justine Briones, who doubled to clear them and make it 8-3.

Samantha Fowler came on in relief in the first inning, and finished off the win, throwing 5.2 innings and striking out seven, finishing off the season with a 14-8 record and leading the squad in wins, innings pitched and strikeouts in her junior campaign. Mo Quinlan picked up the final two outs for Long Beach State.
Long Beach State closes the regular season with a 29-22 overall record, and the Beach finished second in the Big West.
